The American Church

Our hearts are filled with envy and our feet are filled with lead,
while the poor are filled with nothing and their stomaches go unfed.

Our hearts seek fame and riches; our imaginations seek repose,
while the poor seek food and shelter, a soft warm bed, and clothes.

Our pockets are lined with money while their heads are lined with lice;
our hearts are void of love and we settle for just "being nice."

"Love your neighbor as yourself" is not a polite suggestion, it is a commandment to be kept,
but today millions woke to starvation while the "righteous" merely slept.

The poor and lost are everywhere, but where are Christians now?
When darkness needs light most, a candle cannot be found.

The hearts of the lost are filled with sin and the feet of truth are filled with lead.
So while the kingdom still lives elsewhere, the American church is dead.
